We have a new site with news about IFQ's and a section where you can list shares and allotments for sale or lease as well as commercial boats, permits, gear and tackle for sale. It is listed on the main menu above, check it out.
We built the IFQ site to try to assist fishermen in the Gulf of Mexico with the latest form of regulation, the IFQ system. Under this system there will be a lot of initial confusion, which we will do our best to help everyone figure out. There also now exist a few new markets that fishermen will find themselves involved in. As you probably know by now, you can sell your shares or allocations and, if you are involved in the fishery, you can buy more shares and allocations if you didn't get as many as you are able to fill in the course of the year. We'd like to see all the allocated poundage be put to use, rather than have some left on the table while other fishermen don't get to make trips they would like to make. To this end we are developing a system to facilitate both ends of the process. We'll have it in place soon and it will be beneficial to all involved, we hope. If you have any ideas that you would like to see implemented here, feel free to contact us (use the contact links on the main menu at the top) and share them with us. We've also added a complete classified ad section where fishermen, particularly Gulf reef fishermen, can list any equipment, commercial tackle, commercial fishing gear or even boats and permits that they have for sale. We have that part of the site up and functional right now and if you want to list something with us contact the ad manager from the contacts link in the main menu for full details. We will be posting full details and completely automating the process of placing an ad on our system very soon but if you want to list something right away just contact us. We have high hopes for the IFQ system working out for the betterment of all in our fishing industry. We've been getting battered around by bad to worse regulation for years now and Lord knows we deserve some sort of a break. Hopefully this new regulatory system will enable those that want to continue to fish to do so and those that want to leave the fishery to do so without walking away from a lifetime of work with little or nothing to show for it.
